An interview with fashion designer Plus Size Reah Norman

Recently, our team, Sealed with a Kiss Designs, has had the pleasure of working with the incredible fashion and product designer, Norman Reah. Reah helped us build our new style "how to" video tutorial Wrap the long awaited Anastasia interchangeable. We specifically chose this project because its Reah specialize in Plus Size Fashion Styling. She became West Coast go-to-girl "for all women over size. Reah was so much fun and such a joy to have work on the project I spoke in a special interview with me so that I can share with our readers / customers a little more about her and her profession.

Reah So, I begin you tell our readers / customers exactly what it is you and how long you did that?

I am a stylist and I specialize in the fashion design for large, as well as products and the proposed style. I am hired magazines, clothing designers, advertising agencies and public relations, and corporate divisions of retail stores to select an appropriate wardrobe, props and accessories to be used in photos, videos, TV, movies, entertainment and fashion. I also work with large models to select wardrobe for portfolio development, test shoots, and special events.

What made you decide to enter this profession?

Since I'm young, I had an eye for style, photography and I was attracted by the clothes and fabrics. My first job was working at a dry cleaners, and then I went to work in Visual Merchandising. I studied photography, art and fashion throughout high school and college, and I finally received my degree in Merchandising and photography. After graduation, I moved to Los Angeles and attended a graduate program in visual communications at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising. I knew I wanted to be a stylist and I have no doubt that the study of these disciplines would allow me to sharpen my eye for detail and create my style as an artist. I worked on staff and freelance, with several companies, designers and professionals in the industry and my work style has been presented in print advertising campaigns, company catalogs, and newspapers.

What do you think are some differences between a style fashionable mainstream and plus size?

There are not many designers in the industry who are willing or interested in the fight against the larger market. Styling for the models is unique because their body is unique. Most models of upright between sizes 0-4, and has Given the nature of an organization this size, they are usually able to dress more. With models, it is the greatest care in clothing selection is based on the type and size of the body. In addition, more women of size should be more cautious about the trends and styles they choose. How would you describe your personal style?

My personal style is comfortable, functional and fashionable. I like jeans, dresses, sweaters, and accessories. I tend to buy more items basic and fashionable dress with jewelry or scarves. I love scarves! On the average day you see me in jeans wide leg, converse, a boyfriend cardigan and, of course, a scarf. During the summer I like to wear dresses and sandals. I live in Los Angeles, so my style is undoubtedly a reflection the "So Cal lifestyle.

As a large woman, what is your biggest obstacle in buying for yourself?

Personally my biggest obstacle to the grocery store for me is that I can not find what I want to buy my size! As I'm trading, looking at through magazines and watch the trend, I am always eager to see designs incorporate more styles made for more. It is frustrating to see some nice styles and models Missy in "and" Junior "sections of department stores, then go to the" most "of the article and the styles and designs simply not compare. There is a huge market opportunity for more, and popular styles and silhouettes are not represented as they should be.

What is your biggest obstacle when a style plus size women?

With more experienced models, I find they are generally comfortable with their bodies and professionals to try different colors and styles, but when working with new models or more women who are not models may be difficult to get them to "think outside the box." As individuals, we do not really see ourselves how others see us and as a designer, I try to offer a fresh perspective and educate my customers on styles and colors that are flattering to them.

As a designer, how do you think the availability of the elegant fashion women size MORE?

I think that the market is growing slowly but surely, more companies are listening to their consumers, however, I am generally disappointed in the selection and availability of style, more focused on fashion plus size that is there today. Considering that 50% of all women of America 18 years and over are more clothing size, it is an affluent marketplace that is not catered to. More women are "Focusing on fashion" are desperate to have more options and often limited to online shopping, rather than being able to walk into a store, try and buy. Hopefully the companies will continue to listen Fashion Forward consumers large and create patterns that are easily accessible, affordable, and easy to wear.

What is the biggest mistake of large woman fashion can choose their wardrobe?

The biggest fashion mistake a woman can be tall, is wearing the right size! A common misconception is that wearing tight clothes will make you look smaller and wearing loose clothing to hide your problem areas. The truth is that wearing tight clothes will only add attention to where the clothing is clinging to this area and are larger. Instead, wear clothes that are too large add bulk to your silhouette. Always try on clothes in a few different formats, remembering that the number on the label does not matter because the calibration is different for each manufacturer's brand. Your clothes should always closely follow the contours of your shape and enhance your curves.

What is the number one item that you think every woman should be large in her wardrobe?

The number one item that every woman should have in large her wardrobe is a pair of flattering jeans more. If you choose a nice pair of jeans that are flattering to your shape and height, they can be worn for almost any occasion. In general, dark denim boot cut, flare and wide leg styles are flattering to body types and more.

What contribution would you bring to the industry size fashion?

I hope I can contribute as a stylist in the fashion industry high size as an educator, role model and mentor. I really appreciate the connection to real women across the country and help them feel good about themselves offering them a new perspective on fashion and style more. I found my place with industry and more, I hope to continue a partnership with more related companies, designers and industry leaders to open up society and women of the media and present winding in a positive spirit, so flattering.

Do you see the market size fashion more and more mainstream recognition at any time in the near future? If yes, how?

Yes, I definitely see the market size fashion more and more mainstream recognition more more each day, even if it is not as fast as we would like. There is more mainstream retailers such as Forever 21, the launch of more lines, and when other companies see their immediate success, they will hopefully follow in their footsteps. Also, there is a tendency to come from television shows American way of life that focus on large, such as displaying dating FOX "More Love" and the oxygen "Dance Your Ass Off". I think as long as these shows gain popularity, so will the supply and demand for fashion and more.

Recently he there were a number of fashion designers to expand their sizes to integrate women in size. What are your thoughts on this?

Fortunately designer couture expanding their lines for women are generally smaller in the direction of the market is headed. While consumers like Most designs and continue to purchase these items and designers continue to respond to women in size and other designers to follow in their footsteps.

For our customers who are interested in plus size style, what is your best advice to get started on the right track?

My advice for your clients, who are interested in pursuing a career as a stylist in large size, is to do your homework and know your market. With a career you must have a thorough knowledge of your potential customers and services you can offer to help grow their business. Stylists are there to make their customers at their best, whether that client is a model, a celebrity or a business. The best way to learn the tools of the trade is working as assistant stylist or a student, you can see all aspects of the business and earn your trust while working with a professional.
