Why are women’s bra sizes so weird?
For example, in most cases your “band size” is your chest measurment plus 4 or 5 inches.
(4 if it is an even measure & 5 if it is odd.)
WHY add the extra 4 or 5 inches?
Why not just use the measurement, say 40 inches?
Measuring over the breast, and subtracting the difference to get the cup size is OK. That makes sense.

yeah you would think they could make it a little simplier but i guess its because we are all so different and shaped and built so different that they way they do it gives you the most options.
